Senate Appropriators Increase Rail Funding Over FY 2016 Level
The Senate Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Subcommittee released their transportation budget on April 19th and it included several increases in funding for rail related programs for a total of $1.7 billion in rail appropriations.
FY 2015 ridership on Amtrak in Virginia grew 1 percent year-over-year, and is up 56 percent since 2009. Virginia's Amtrak Regionals continue to do well exceeding 878,000 passengers this year. The Commonwealth currently has four of the top six best performing regional corridors (under 750 miles) in the entire nation.
